Hello everyone, my name is Eaton Baptiste. I'm a senior here at OU. Currently I am studying Management Information Systems with the intention of becoming a security analyst, but I'm still not sure what company would be the best fit for me.

When I am not learning about new programming languages and networks I enjoy sketching. I sometimes draw pictures for people as gifts not because I think that I am a great artist but because I think that putting thought and energy into something is the best way to make a gift meaningful and that is what I try to do with my pictures. I prefer to sketch animals.
Also, I enjoy running. My distance right now is not too long but I entered a 5k race last semester which was progress for me even though I only placed in the first couple hundred out of 800 people. Sometimes its best to get a group of people together for running because it helps to keep the motivation going (especially when its freezing outside).
Even though I am not American I have a few relatives here in the U.S.. During the summer I might visit Boston to see my great grandmother and aunts or New York to visit my uncle. When I was a kid it was pretty typical for our family to visit amusement parks like Six Flags New Jersey or New Hampshire during the summer.
Just a few random things about me:
- I am a strong proponent of the three day weekend and hope to pioneer this in my home country some day.
- Mystery novels are some of my favorite reading books.
- I watch a lot of movies.
- I hope that Leonardo Dicaprio finally wins an Oscar for "The Revenant".
I look forward to the new year and I hope that you all have a good one too.
I was so curious to read your Introduction based on your favorite places post, Eaton... and I continue to be fascinated by your life past and future. How exciting! NETWORKS: they are an obsession of mine in terms of learning, and of course they are providing the magic (and danger) of the Internet to us every day, 24/7. Have you heard about something called "connectivism"...? It is a learning theory about learners in networks, and I like to think about this class as a little learning network that we make with our blogs. And how wonderful that you are an artist! Maybe you will want to do illustrations for your stories in this class: that would be a brilliant contribution for everyone to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteIf you are curious, here is something about learning and connectivism; for me, as a teacher, this is very inspiring: Connectivism: A Learning Theory for the Digital Age

ReplyDeleteFascinating post Eaton. I love the fact that you have gotten to travel around the US. I SOOOOO want to get to New York someday.
ReplyDeleteI am also a fan of rollercoasters. Well used to be. Then the lady died on the Texas Giant in Dallas. That was just after I had ridden the wooden coaster here in San Antonio and my lap bar came up. Talk about whit knuckled ride. The only coasters I have ridden since were at Universal Studios and Disney World. Got to love Space Mountain.
You state you are not an American... Where are you from?
Kudos on the 5K
Helps to proof read....
Hi Eaton!
ReplyDeleteI love New Hampshire! I have family from Connecticut, so its super easy to travel from state to state in the Northeast. Will you be reading while you travel? Also, I think it is super impressive that you did well in a 5K. I am currently trying (aka forcing) myself to make running a habit. It's going. Maybe one day I will actually like it. It was nice reading about you!
Eaton, It's nice to meet you! Good luck with your future in the security analyst field and congratulations on your senior status! I think it's so cool that you like to draw in your free time. One thing I wish I had was the ability to draw pictures that actually look good! On the running, I can't relate to you but I can only imagine how difficult it must be training for races.
ReplyDeleteI also hope that DiCaprio when’s an Oscar to. It’s way overdue, there is nothing I haven’t seen him in that he wasn’t good. I find your job to be very interesting and I believe that in time you will find your place within the job world. Just takes time and patience. I wish you luck with your future job, and I hope you get all the success in the world.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I’m a big lover of Mystery books, ever sense I picked up Wishbone Mystery books as a child, I have been obsessed. If you haven’t already read some Agatha Christie, she is amazing!
Hi Eaton, it is very nice to meet you. I think you have very interesting hobbies. I myself am a doodler, but I only do that once in a blue moon. Running, on the other hand, is something I avoid like a plague which is why I admire anyone who enjoys that activity. What kind of movies do you like to watch?
ReplyDeleteHello Eaton, it is nice to meet you. I noticed that you said that you were not an American. What exactly is your nationality? I also like to draw, but my abilities are limited to having something to look at while I sketch it. I am not a big fan of running, but I applaud you for your efforts to get better at it. I hope all goes well for you in your future studies and good luck for the rest of this semester.
ReplyDeleteHey Eaton!
ReplyDeleteGreat to meet you! I too am a senior, it's great to finally see the light at the end of the school tunnel! Your major sounds really interesting! I have always been fascinated by the ways in which computer programming works and you seem to be very knowledgable about that and the ways in which you can analyze companies' securities! Good luck in all of your endeavors!
Hello Eaton,
ReplyDeleteIt is very nice meeting you. I enjoyed reading your introduction, and I found it fascinating. Majoring in Management Information Systems, have you thought about a job in defense? I know it does not sound fun, but there many defense companies hiring. I was involved in an engineering organization for well over ten years and there many people from the STEM community involved in the organization (not just engineers). Many worked in the fields of IT/CS/and IS for defense and other governmental agencies. My best friend was an IT major at Oklahoma City University, and she ended up on a different route. She got a job with an oil company establishing their communication lines, while traveling around the United States and Canada, making sure everyone was “connected” on better cellular networks. You must be happy about Leonardo’s recent winning of an Oscar. It was very much deserved. He is an awesome actor. Congratulations on being a senior, I wish you the best of luck on your future endeavors!
Hey Eaton,
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I've met an MIS. We definitely need more (and better) security analysts out there, so I hope you do well out there. Anyways, since you're in to cyber security and movies, have you seen Mr. Robot? If you haven't, you should definitely check it out. They actually managed to get a lot right, and it's still a great show from just a story standpoint.
Hey, Eaton! Nice to meet you. I'm sure you were happy to see that Leonardo DiCaprio DID get his Oscar, FINALLY!
ReplyDeleteIt's really cool that you want to be a security analyst. That is so important nowaways.
Also, I also like to read mystery books! I love to read Gillian Flynn, and her earlier books--they are INCREDIBLE! I highly reccomend it.
I also believe in the three day weekend, that should absolutely happen!
Anyways, nice to meet you!
You were right about The Revenant winning an Oscar – Leo finally got one!! I am currently in Accounting Information Systems. I really enjoy MIS but I am not sure I could major in it because of how advanced it gets. I am also a strong proponent of the three day weekend and would for sure back you up on this addition! By the way, I find that Anonymous hacker from your WMNews video intriguing!
ReplyDeleteHi Eaton,
ReplyDeleteJust checking in again. It’s been a while since I last visited your blog and I was wondering what you thought of the class now that it is drawing to a close. It looks like you got your wish, with Leanardo Dicaprio finally winning that elusive Oscar for his role in “The Revenant”. I hope all your other classes went well and congratulations on the upcoming graduation!
Hey Eaton,
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe I have gone this whole semester without coming across your blog. I think it is awesome you want to be a security analyst. It sounds fascinating. I am so jealous of your drawing capabilities. I can hardly draw a stick figure! What is your favorite animal to draw? I also would have to back your efforts to a 3 day weekend. I think it would be very beneficial for everyone! It was nice to meet you!
Can I just start by saying that I absolutely love Jimmy Kimmel, too! It appears you have quite a few hobbies besides just programming. Running is something I’ve picked up recently as well. Doing a 5k is next on my to-do list. Placing in the first 25% is quite an accomplishment for your first one; Congratulations! I hope you are enjoying your time in America!
ReplyDeleteHi Eaton! I think it's pretty crazy that finally we get to meet at the end of the course! My best friend is studying MIS in UT so I totally understand everything you go through. I cannot and will not do rollercoasters. I am terrified of heights and will most likely have the friend that takes me on them go deaf by the end of the ride. Congrats on running the 5k! I'm sure with dedication like yours, you will go far in life!
ReplyDeleteHi Eaton! I think it is so cool that you have such a wide variety of interests. I wouldn't expect somebody who's going to be a security analyst to also have an interest in the arts, especially not as an artist themselves! I love when people have unique, productive hobbies like that! Embarrassingly, I have very little concept of what a security analyst actually does in their daily work, so you've inspired me to fix this gap in my knowledge.
